Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I get started?
Please reach out to schedule a free 15 minute phone call. Let's talk about what is bringing you to seek therapy at this time, and you can get a sense of me. Then, we will decide if we want to move forward with scheduling a meeting to begin our work together.
  • What can I expect in therapy?
I will show up for you with deep listening and attunement to your unique needs, to create a safe and supportive environment where you can explore life's challenges. I will hold your life story with the reverance you deserve. I will gently challenge you at times, too, in the service of growth and trying new ways of meeting old patterns. My approach emphasizes open communication and collaboration, allowing you to explore your thoughts, feelings and choices in a secure space, and for us to dialogue and think-out-loud together. I will guide you through self-exploration and help you gain insights into your relationships, behaviors, and emotions. I am particularly passionate about helping my clients become more attuned to the way they speak to themselves, and to find more constructive and supportive ways of doing so. The goal is to empower you to make positive changes within yourself, and develop healthier coping mechanisms to meet the challenges in your life. By focusing on your strengths and values, we will strive to enhance your emotional well-being and to foster growth and increased satisfaction in your life and relationships, especially your relationship with yourself.
  • How frequent are therapy sessions?
Usually, people come in once a week, or once every other week. But the schedule can change based on your goals and how you're feeling. I aim to create a flexible and personal therapy schedule that best fits your needs.
  • How will I know if therapy is working?
You may start to see a change in the symptoms that brought you to seek therapy, such as decreased anxiety, improved mood, or better stress tolerance. You might notice a growing understanding of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. You may experience greater self-compassion, leading to improved relationships and communication with others. You might cultivate a greater range of coping skills and an increased sense of your strengths and options for managing distress. You may find yourself feeling more comfortable expressing vulnerability and honoring your emotional needs. Therapy is a collaborative process, so I encourage clients to provide feedback on whether we're covering the right topics and if the work feels helpful.
  • How long does therapy last?
For some clients, achieving specific goals might involve short-term therapy, usually over the course of a few months. Others might benefit from or prefer long-term therapy that provides ongoing support and addresses deeper issues over a period of years.
  • Is therapy confidential?
I maintain confidentiality for all clients. This privacy is essential to the sense of safety within the therapeutic relationship. For teens, there are certain conditions under which I am obligated to break confidentiality - if someone is hurting them, now or in the past, or they are going to hurt themselves or someone else, or other legal obligations and safety issues. It is important for the teen to have an appropriate sense of privacy and autonomy. I will consult and communicate with the parent(s) or guardian(s) with the knowledge and consent of the teen. For adults, confidentiality is strictly upheld except in situations involving serious threats of harm, elder abuse, or court orders.
